Do I need to complete a Self Assessment Tax Return?
A wide range of individuals indifferent circumstances need to complete a Self Assessment Tax Return. HMRC will inform you if you need to complete one. HMRC will not inform you if you have not registered correctly or notified them of your circumstances.
The general rule is that if an individual or company receive income without the deduction of tax at source then a Self Assessment Tax Return will need to be completed. If an individual is the director of a Company the a Self Assessment Tax Return will also need to be completed. If an individual is the director of a Company then a Self Assessment Tax Return will also need to be completed. This is not an exhaustive list of people who will need to complete a return. You should contact an accountant if you are unsure of your obligations.
